My Week with Marilyn

My Week with Marilyn is based ‘The Prince, The Showgirl and Me’, a book by Colin Clarke about his experience as third assistant director on Laurence Olivier’s forthcoming film production of “The Prince and the Showgirl” starring Marilyn Monroe.

The film documents the media circus which follows Monroe when she comes to England with her new husband Arthur Miller in tow and Olivier’s increasing frustration with Monroe during filming.

Clarke offers Monroe support and a rare sense of escapism from the pressures of Hollywood by taking her around the English countryside. With his infatuation growing by the minute, Monroe opens up to Clarke about her unhappy life and asks him to spend the night with her.

Monroe eventually completes the film and receives praise from Olivier and pays a special visit to Clarke before she flies back home.

The all-star cast includes Kenneth Branagh as Olivier, Michelle Williams as Monroe and Eddie Redmayne as Clarke.
